Policies and Procedures
Circulation Policy
With the exception of PreK and Kindergarten, the Riojas library operates on a flexible schedule. This means that students come down to the library at the point of need to exchange books. In other words, there is not a "set" library day for any grade level other than PreK and Kindergarten, although teachers certainly can (and do) bring whole classes for checkout at once.
-
PreK and Kindergarten students check out 1 book at a time for a period of one week.
-
1st grade students check out 1 book at a time for a period of up two weeks. They will start checking out 2 books later in the year.
-
Students in grades 2-5 check out 2 books at a time for a period of up to two weeks.
-
All students may check out an "extra" book when they are needed for research projects.
-
Parents can also check out up to 10 books at a time from our library. Come in and see Mrs. Jackson to set up an account.
Overdue & Lost Book Policies
Students may renew their books if they are still reading them at the time they are due provided no one else has placed a hold on that book. There are no fines for late books, but lost or damaged books must be paid for before new books can be checked out. If a "lost" book is later found, a refund will be given if it is returned within one calendar year.
You may pay for fines online through the following link: Library Fines
Playaway Policies
Students in 4th and 5th grade may check out audio books, called Playaways. Due to the high cost of these, a parent permission form is required before students can check them out. This is ensure that parents are aware that the cost to replace a lost or damaged Playaway is much higher than a regular library book. Your child may request a permission form from Mrs. Jackson in the library.
